Eat Better Feel Better is a platform to show off my paintings, share recipes and promote my cooking, watercolor, knitting and crochet classes. I have taught group classes around the Bay Area since the late 1990′s. I am very patient teacher and I want my students to feel successful and develop their own styles of working. You can get updates on classes and a watercolor illustrated gluten-free, dairy-free recipe on my monthly newsletter.

Ilah’s Background

I am a third generation artist. My first painting teacher was my grandmother, and most of my family are creative.

I studied fine art at the California College of the Arts and I’ve worked in a wide range of mediums:

  • While my favorite painting medium is watercolor, I also paint in oil, acrylic and encaustic. I helped to create murals in Montero’s nightclub in Albany and Foster Elementary in Oakland. In 2003 I was awarded a month-long artist residency at Fundacion Valparaiso in Mojacar, Spain, where I painted watercolors of the local landscape, drawings based on my trip to France in 2001, and acrylic paintings of industrial sites in my home town.
  • In recent years I have renewed my love for knitting and crochet. I am especially drawn to elaborate color work and lace. You can see my projects  by logging onto www.ravelry.com. My user name is  EatBetter.
  • I have sewn and designed costumes for the Shotgun Players theatre company, made numerous quilts for expecting friends and I sew many of my own clothes.

Why is this site called Eat Better Feel Better?

Originally Eat Better Feel Better was my private nutrition consulting service.  My interest in nutrition stemmed from my own health issues related to food allergies and sensitivities. I developed numerous recipes to accommodate my dietary restrictions, as well as those of my clients.  As a long time teacher I began to offer cooking classes to the community at large.

While I am glad I was able to help so many private clients, in 2013 I decided focus exclusively on teaching, and I slowly began to offer watercolor and fiber arts classes. I send a monthly newsletter featuring a recipe, a watercolor illustration and and update on classes and events. I’m so glad to be able to share my love of cooking and creativity with the public as my career .
